Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a modified type of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others. DBT is used both as individual therapy and group therapy.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy means understanding how two different thoughts could coexist in harmony. For example, accepting yourself and changing your behavior might seem contradictory, but with DBT you learn that you can achieve both goals. There are four skills taught in DBT: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Emotional Regulation.
